Just when it seemed that Democrats would continue their wimpy ways, Joe "Middle of the Road" Biden, has begun to propose the spending of trillions — that's right folks, TRILLIONS — of dollars, some of it right into your pocket and then a bunch more to fix roads, bridges and who knows what else as well as start down the fixed infrastructure to a greener future. And there is even talk of a Voting Rights Bill to counter the Republicans ditching free elections to favor their personal election. Who knows then what is to follow? Give North Georgia back to the Cherokee? Equal rights under the law even for darker skinned Americans?
Could we really get a new world order that is idealistic instead of grossly unfairly Capitalistic one? Would MAGA mean that America was really and truly morally great instead of Trumpy ego power and money great?
I would very much like to see the first steps on the hike of many miles. Yes, the initial movement starts the march. We must start somewhere. Still, you will excuse me if I am a tad skeptical. If history and Democratic Party history is any measure, I am not so sure that the first steps will not trip over its own shoe laces. Maybe history will not repeat. Time will tell — even if time is short for fixing things up.
This is all no small matter and while I do not want to do an historical piece on the tradition of wimpiness of the Democrats, I would historically remind us all that Hitler came to power in no small measure because the Weimar Republic was to the German working class male wimpy and weak and the cause of their Depression impoverishment. Hitler promised MGGA, make Germany great again and jobs. Trump appealed to white working class Americans by promising jobs that had left the country to China and Mexico and to MAGA.
The big thing to remind politicians is not as Joe has said that "politics is the measure of the possible." Well, to an extent it must be, but then again what is "possible" and what is necessary and called for may be two different directions and when you get what you can, what you need to get may not get gotten. And that can be a big big problem. If the necessary is not possible, we are in trouble. The "possible" road and the Republican's wrong road may be on the same road and off the cliff.
So, I am all for the new direction that Joe is going. I am all for spending trillions. I am all for voting rights. I am all for getting everyone vaccinated and masked until then. I am all for a good minimum wage. I am all for everyone having healthcare. I am all for greater gun control. I am all for a bunch of things that Democrats are pushing. As first teeny weeny steps it is all fine and dandy. Yet, remember: these are the first teeny weeny steps on a high and mighty trek in the political and social Himalayas.
What is needed, though, is real and true rebooting of America. My favorite politicians, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and AOC would take us a couple of steps further on. Yet, even their proposals are not nearly enough.
So, before we all get lost in all the political battles of the next couple of years over Democrat proposals and Republican obstruction, please think about what is really necessary, which road we really need to take and what path leads us to the Promised Land of milk and honey and not to Mar-El-Largo bowing down to the malicious fool.
And of course, read the essays of this website I hope to help you begin to think about what would really and truly make a necessary difference.
